COL William John Wilgus died in Claremont, NH on October 24, 1949. He was born on November 20, 1865 in Buffalo, NY; the son of Frank and Margaret (Woodcock) Wilgus.

He married May Reed on March 1, 1892 in Scottsville, NY who preceded him in death.

He married Gertrude Bernadette Tobin on June 16, 1919 in Manhattan, NY.

As vice-president and chief engineer of the New York Central Railroad, Wilgus conceived the present Grand Central Terminal at New York, and later directed transportation for the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I.

Surviving is his wife and children Margaret and William Jr.

Burial is in Union cemetery.
