J. Hedrick Shelburne, 71, of Ballinger died at 11:26 a.m. Tuesday in the Ballinger Memorial Hospital after a one-week illness. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger.

The Rev. Plez Todd, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Shelburne was born September 9, 1901, in Runnels County. He was a retired farmer who moved to Ballinger from Bethel in 1957. He was president of the Ballinger livestock auction and was superintendent of the Bethel Methodist Sunday School for 30 years. He was also secretary of the Doss Bible Class at the First United Methodist Church. He married Sue McShan May 24, 1925 in Ballinger.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Billy Shelburne of San Angelo; a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Gruben of Rotan; two brothers, Tommy of Hermleigh and Kemper of Norton; three sisters, Mrs. J.C. Allison of Eastland, Miss Anne Shelburne and Mrs. Vera Adam, both of Ft. Hancock; and five grandchildren.
