AGED MAN FOUND DEAD IN COUNTRY HOME BY NEIGHBOR
CORONER SAID DEATH WAS DUE TO CHRONIC DISEASE OF THE HEART
John Greenwelll, aged seventy-four years and a highly respected farmer was found dead in his home one mile west of St. Mary's church, in Barr township by Roland Brothers, about ten o'clock Friday morning.
Mr. Greenwell, who has been afflicted with an ailment of the heart has lived alone on his farm for several years and was last seen alive in Loogootee Thursday-afternoon where he had come to transact some business matters and conversed with several acquaintances while in town.
Peering through a window young Brothers saw the body of the aged man lying on the floor and without entering notified the neighbors who called Dr. Eifert, coroner of Daviess county and Norris & Shircliff, local undertakers. Coroner Eifert pronounced death due to chronic heart disease.
Mr Greenwell evidently was stricken early Thursday evening as evidence revealed that he had been dead several hours when found. The chores of Thursday afternoon had all been attended to and the house as in perfect order, the covers of the bed had been carefully laid back and the man's shoes removed. A chair was at the side of the bed. Mr. Greenwell was lying on his back on the floor with one foot resting on the chair indicting that he was removing his supporters to retire for the night when the fatal attact [attack] came on. Mr. Greenwell had been a widower for twenty-eight years. His wife who was Sarah J Riney having died in 1901[1909].
Mr. Greenell [Greenwell] was the father of eight living children and two who died in infancy. The living are as follows: Mrs. Leo Grannon [Grannan] of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Austin Grannon [Grannan] of Montgomery, Mrs. James Gootee, Mrs. Elmer Gough and John Greenwell of Indianapolis, Clarence of Jefferson Barracks, Mo., Nilas of the state of Minnesota and Walter of Barr township, all attending the funeral except Nilas, who could not be reached.
Funeral services were held from St. Mary's Catholic church Tuesday morning. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
