Sottosanti studied art at the Beaux Arts Institute, Art Students League, and the Da Vinci School in New York City. Inspired by the works of Orozco, he toured Mexico on a motorcycle in 1939 and then settled in San Francisco. As an employee of the Works Progress Administration, he assisted Diego Rivera on murals for The Golden Gate International Exposition (1939-1940) on Treasure Island, San Francisco. His subjects include women, Mexican scenes, and Chinatown in all types of media.
