Hazel never married. She spent the last years of her life sharing a home in Port Angeles, Washington with her brother Guy Elder until he passed in Redfield KS, he was cremated. He had also never married. Hazel was into Genealogy. She shared the passion with her nephew Jesse Elder's wife Lula. Lula picked up where Hazel left off and has been the main reason there is so much first hand research and photographs about the Elder family on Geni.com Story about the loss of Hazels eye. When she was a very young girl, Hazel was sitting on the floor playing with a pair of scissors when her mother screamed at her because she was playing with scissors. Hazel jumped and proceeded to poke her eye which caused her to lose it. Many of her photos are taken sideview so you don't see the loss of the eye.
