Clayton Manning ID'd as hit-run victim

The man who was struck and killed as he attempted to cross a busy Shreveport street late Saturday is identified as 88-year-old Clayton Manning, according to police.

Patrol officers were sent just before 11:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop — about halfway between Mansfield and Baird roads — after getting word of a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle. It happened on the border of Shreveport's South Park and Summer Grove neighborhoods.

On arrival, officers found a man who had been run over while apparently trying to cross the busy multilane highway on foot, police spokesman Sgt. Bill Goodin said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle that struck him had left the scene.

Investigators are working to obtain a description of the vehicle and determine exactly what led to the crash.

People with more information should call Shreveport police crash investigators at (318) 673-7255 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
