Funeral Mass was held at 10 am.m Thursday, Sept. 23, at St. Patrick's Church in Tama for Joseph W. Dostal, 92, who died at Grand View Acres Nursing Center in Toledo early Monday evening, Sept. 20. He had been hospitalized on Jan. 8 of this year as a result of a fall in his home and entered the nursing center on Jan. 19. Death was attributed to his advanced age and a heart condition. Rev. G. F. Hemesath celebrated the Mass. Burial was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier.
Joseph William Dostal was born northeast of Toledo on March 9, 1884, the son of Joseph H and Anna Pokorny Dostal. He attended the Otter Creek No. 8 rural school and the Catholic Academy in Tama for 1 1/2 years. On Jan. 12, 1909, he was married near Clutier to Anna B. Vitipil of the Buckingham community. The couple farmed six miles north of Toledo.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Anna, who died on Aug. 22, 1974; a daughter, Helen, in 1957; and two brothers, Louis and James Dostal.
Survivors include three sons, Ralph J. and Lester E., both of Toledo area, and Harry L. of Marshalltown; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Nekola of Toledo; four brothers, Frank and Peter Dostal, both of Tama, and John and Ernest Dostal of Toledo; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Fred, Erwin, Duane, Alfred, Leo and Leonard Dostal.
A public rosary was recited from the Funeral Home in Tama Wednesday night and was conducted by Rev. G. F. Hemesath. Mrs. Milo Nekola and Mrs. Leonard Seda cared for Mass offerings and they were also in charge of floral tributes.
