Simon T. Hill was born in January of 1798, somewhere in New York State, the son of an unknown father from Vermont and an unknown mother from New York State.1 He had two known children, Simon T. Jr., and Mary H. It is believed that the mother of his children passed away, and he married Fidelia Russell, daughter of Elihu Russell of Riga, New York, formerly from Massachusetts. Simon and Fidelia moved to Michigan around 1835, after the death of Fidelia's father.2 Simon and Fidelia reared his two children, but Fidelia died without issue.3 Simon and Fidelia, with others, began the Methodist Episcopal Church in Maple Rapids, as well as the Methodist Episcopal Church in Hadley, MI.4 Simon died in 1883, and Fidelia died in 1887. They are both buried beneath this stone.
