Lloyd Nolan Landers, 65, of Russellville died today(Nov.26,1980). He was a construction foreman and retired in 1975 as main supervisor for the Russellville Housing Authority. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Russellville, Arkansas. Born Sal Tillo, outside Conway, Faulkner, Arkansas, USA.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue (Mason) Landers; two sons Lloyd Jr. and Lonnie; two daughters Sydna and Mary; two brothers Loyce and George Landers; 10 gandchildren (Shelly, Jeannie, Andrew, Donnie, Robert, Scott, Chris,Jeri Lynn, Jamie and Rebecca) and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be Friday, Nov 28, 1980 at 3 p.m. at Shinn Chapel. Rev. Jack Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park by Shinn Funeral Service.
Lloyd was 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 220lbs. He had blue eyes and blondish brown hair. He was left handed in everything except to write. He helped to build the Golden Gate Bridge, worked at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., worked construction in Springfield Mo and in Fla., worked on the Dardanelle Dam, the dam in Spiro, Okla., he helped build Valley Superior Savings in Ft. Smith, Ark, helped remodel the Ark Tech Library(1966), helped build Roush , Turner & Brown Dorms at Tech, Witherspoon at Tech. He worked for Manhatten Construction out of Tulsa. He was partners with Loyce in several service stations in Conway, Ark. after he came home from the service. ( one was located north of Oak St. on the east side of Harkrider, it was a Lion station, the one they had when Skip was a baby was at the corner of Harkrider and Oak (highway 64 & 65 was a Sinclair service station 1946) (Wal-green there 6-30-99) and the last one was on the east side of Harkrider south of Oak was a D X. They also had a Gulf.) They had 3 D X on Harkrider Street, 2 Lion on Harkrider, A Gulf on Harkrider and the one Sinclair on Oak and Harkrider. The Karber brothers ran a service station on the west side a little ways down. He owned Phillips 66 in Tulsa, Ok . When he started the station there it was not very productive and he changed it around to where it was the largest producing station in Tulsas and surrounding area that Boots Adams the CEO of Phillips presented him with a plaque. ( Buford Chambers and Carl Karber worked with him, the station was located on Admiral and Harvard), Cafe in Skiatook, Okla, worked Atkins Pickle Co in Atkins, Ark.,Curtis Candy Salesman, worked in Hawaii to rebuild where the Japs bombed while there he sent his Mom money home each week for George's schooling and his last job was Supervisor of Maintenance for Russellville Housing Authority.Lloyd also hauled steel for Ward's Bus Company in Conway to St Louis and Kansas. He hauled produce to Calif for Dewey Wofford in Conway. He worked at Marche (maumelle) Fire Dept.Lloyd was inducted into the army 18 Aug 1943 and into active service 8 Sept 1943.(3rd anniversary) He entered in the service at Little Rock Ark. Battles and campaigns were Rhineland Ardennes Go 40 WD 45 Northern France Go 46 WD 45 Central Europe Go WD45 Decorations and citations were good conduct medal, EAME service ribbon and four bronze stars.. Highest rank held was Master Sergeant. Service outside Continental U.S. depart-27 Feb 1944 EAME arrival 9 Mar 1944, depart 19 Aug 1945 U.S. arrival 27 Aug 1945. He was a member of Hq 1058th Engr Port Constr & Repr Cp . Date of separation was 30 Oct 1945 from Fort Chaffee Arkansas. He was 6'4" and 215 lbs. He qualified for military sharpshooter rifle 8 Nov 1943, military occupational specialty and no. Duty NCO 566.
Total length of service continenal 7 months, 22 days and, foreign service 1 year 6 months 1 day. reason for separation Conv of Govt RR 1-1 Demobilization AR 615-365 15 Dec 44 Service schools attended Ord School Water Proofing of Ordnance Material 10 days 7709. His army serial number was 38 512 744. He was a Pvt for 3 months in Engineer Basic training and 22 months as Master sergeant in Construction Equipment Mechanic. He was in charge of heavy equipment such as caterpillars, cranes, compressors and welding machines in the engineer organization. He supervised 95 men. He was responsible for the upkeep and good condition of the machinery.He made frequent inspection for necessary repairs and also did repair work himself. He used both gas and electric welding machines. he was a crane operator and instructor in operation of pneumatic tools. He helped recondition the port at Cherbourgh and also repaired railroad bridges destroyed in the fighting.
