William Whittington Bell, 81, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at his home of cancer.

Mr. Bell was born on January 2, 1929, to Albert M. and Lydia J. Bell. He graduated from Winona High School in 1946, and later served in the United States Army. While serving in the army, he fought in the Korean War and earned a Bronze Star.

Mr. Bell was a retired employee of the State of Mississippi Highway Department. After retirement, he worked from his home office as a land surveyor. He was a member of Grenada Presbyterian Church and served as an elected Elder of the congregation. Bill also served many years with the 31st Infantry "Dixie" Division Association, as well as, the Mississippi Association of Land Surveyors.

William W. Bell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josephine Mullen Bell; daughter, Sherrye Bell Bailey; son-in-law, Hugh Lee Bailey, Jr.; grandchildren, Karen Bailey Lyon and Hugh Lee Bailey III (Tripp); great-grandsons, William Bailey Lyon, Wells McLeod Lyon, and Griffin Allen Lyon; and sisters, Ruth Bell Nanos and Rosalie Bell Aiello.

Visitation will be held today from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home located at 719 South Main Street in Grenada, MS. Funeral services will be held at Grenada Presbyterian Church located at 2150 Country Club Road, Grenada, MS, on Sunday, March 28th, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at with Rev. Matt Schilling officiating and Rev. Terry Walton assisting. Burial will be at Winona Garden of Memory on Highway 51 South in Winona, MS. Garner-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Mark Griffin, Dan Ross, Joe Ross, James M. Alexander, Keith Mullen, Tommy Magliola, Ronald Mullen, and Jimmy Mullen. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of Grenada Presbyterian Church and include Robert Shaw, Paul Holland, Brant Godbold, John Hutchins, Ron McRee, and Watt O'Bryant.
