Catherine Kaut Chilton Times Nov. 18, 1916
Mrs. Katherine Kaut died at her home in South Stockbridge on Monday morning following an operation for telescoping of the intestines at the age of seventy-six years and seven months. Mrs. Kaut had been a sufferer for some time and an operation was the only hope held out for her recovery.
The deceased was born in Luxemburg, in April 1840, and at the age of fourteen years came to America with her parents, who located in the town of Brothertown. In 1861 she was married to Michael Kaut at Marytown and they lived on a farm in Brothertown until some sixteen years ago, when they moved onto the farm in South Stockbridge where she resided until called by death.
The deceased was a good Christian woman and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. The funeral was held on Wednesday forenoon from St. Charles' Church in Charlesburg, Rev. Fr. P. J. Nilles celebrating Requiem Mass.
She is survived by a husband, two sons, Jacob of Brothertown, John of Stockbridge and four daughters, Mrs. Edw. Wettstein of Stockbridge and the remaining three daughters members of the Notre Dame Order of Milwaukee, a religious sisterhood. She is also survived by a brother, Math. Berchem, of Boyd and two sisters, Mrs. John Schommer of Chilton and Mrs. John Schumacher of Hilbert.
The deceased was a member of the Ladies' Sodality whose members attended the funeral in a body, six of them acting as pall bearers.
