The funeral for Spencer O. Sabbe, 94, of Maddock will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. Interment will be in the Flora Cemetery. He died March 28, 1999 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake

Pastor Paula Knutson will officiate. Vi Jordre will be organist and Renee Gilderhus soloist. Pallbearers will be Palmer Odden Jr., John Benson, Brian Maddock, Francis Hellerud, Dennis Walker. and George Kanzelman. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of arrangements.

Spencer Odean Sabbe was born March 18, 1905 in Bagley, Minn. to Andrew and Oline Swenson Sabbe. The family moved to a farm in Hesper Township near Hesper. He was educated near Hesper and worked on the farm. His family later moved to the Hobbs farm near Flora. Spencer married Winifred Hobbs, Sept. 28, 1932 in New Rockford. They lived and farmed in North Viking Township near Flora until retiring in 1970. She died on Oct. 24, 1974. He continued living on the farm until his death.

He was a member of the Flora Lutheran Church. He served on the North Viking Board for more than 30 years. He was a member of the board of Maddock Farmers Grain for 18 years. He served as supervisor of the North Central Soil Conservation District from July of 1956 to June of 1968. He was a former member of the Benson County NFO board. He served on the Viking Farmers Mutual Insurance board and was sexton of the Flora Cemetery for a number of years. He was a member of the 1976 Maddock Diamond Jubilee Heritage Committee and also assisted with preparation of the Maddock History Book. He enjoyed many years of gardening and lawn care after his retirement.

Survivors include 3 sons and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and June Sabbe of Harvey, Dean and Fern Sabbe of Casper, Wyo. and Roger and Lorraine Sabbe of Maddock; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Jeanette Lamen and Esther Sabbe of Maddock; and 2 sister-in-law, Luella Sabbe of Maddock and Phylllis Orlearmann of St Paul, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Lyle; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Sabbe; 3 brothers, Clifford, Palmer and Orval Sabbe; and a sister Sophie Sabbe.
