James E. Cokrell, 78, a resident of Valley Center the past 37 years, died at his home Tuesday evening following a short illness. He had been in poor health several years. He was born May 22, 1865. For years he was active in the grocery business in Valley Center, worked for the city as street commissioner, and of late years took care of his rental properties here in Valley Center.
He is survived by his wife, Frances E., one daughter Mrs. May Pugh, of Evansville, Ind., one son, John P. Cockrell, of Wichita, a granddaughter, Frances Minnett, of Evansville, Ind., a grandson, Jimmie Cockrell, of Valley Center, and a great granddaughter, Judith Ann Minnett.
Funeral services will be held at the Valley. Center Christian church Thursday afternoon at one o'clock with the Rev. Wm. Moore, officiating. The Ewing Mortuary of Valley Center have charge of the services. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawns cemetery at Wichita.
