Ora Lee (Bardwell) Bennett was born on the Divide on Jan. 31, 1907. She still owns the land on which she was born. Part of the house on this land is still the same as it was in 1907. Ora Lee is the daughter of Glenn Bardwell and Mattie (Rogers) Bardwell.

Glenn Bardwell was born in 1881 and came to Nolan County in 1882 with his parents, J. H. Bardwell and Mollie (Aiken) Bardwell. J. H. settled on Bitter Creek and established a stock farm. He was one of the first settlers in Nolan County to run sheep.

Glenn, who was reared on Bitter Creek, was one of eight children. He married Mattie Rogers, whose family came to Nolan County in 1898.

In 1920, Glenn Bardwell and his family moved to Sweetwater where Horatio and Ora Lee finished high school. Glenn established a meat market and operated it until he went to work for Pace Packing Company.

Bennett (b. 1/07/1863 - d. 4/05/1942) and Bell (Collins) Bennett (b. 12/10/1870 - d. 1/25/1918). J. M. Bennett owned a drug store and freight company. J. M. Bennett lived in Limestone County, TX, until he moved to Loraine in 1908.

Walter married Mittie Hancock in January 1918 and had two children, Walter E. Bennett and Margaret (Bennett) Watts. Mittie died August 3, 1929. He then married Ora Lee Bardwell on March 4, 1931. He was a self-employed farmer and accountant.

Walter and Ora Lee had one son, Glenn D. Bennett, born in 1933. He married Lylia Moore of Abilene on May 22, 1955. They have two sons, Terry and David. Terry is married to the former Donna Frizzell. They have two children, Billy Don and Mandy. David, as of 1984, is still single.
