James Miles Duncan, age 83 years and 5 months, died at the home of his son, Samuel J. Duncan, at Mill Springs, last Saturday, after a short illness.
Mr. Duncan was a native of this county and always lived here, except for a few months last year when he moved to Burnside and returned to Mill Springs on the death of his wife on January 6th. He had always been a farmer and was a splendid citizen. He was twice married, first to Miss Nannie E. Barnes, a sister of Judge M.H. Barnes of this city, who died some years ago, and then he married Mrs. Fanny Meadows Butler, who died in Somerset on January 6th. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Maude Beck and Mrs. R.C. Denney of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. J.L. Dodson of Bristow, Okla.; Dr. C.W. Duncan of Hearne, Texas; William M. Duncan of Texarkana, Tex.; and Sam J. Duncan of Mill Springs.
The funeral services were held at the Mill Springs Methodist Church of which Mr. Duncan was a member, Sunday afternoon, his pastor, Rev. Claude Perkins officiating, after which the remains, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends, were brought to the Elk Spring Cemetery for burial.
