Arlien Mary Merrill Coburn

DEWEYVILLE, Utah Arlien Mary Merrill Coburn, 67, died suddenly, Saturday, March 10, 2001.

She was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of Myron Wells and Gladys Beata Owens Merrill. She grew up on a farm in Weston and Dayton, Idaho, with her two sisters and one brother. She graduated from West Side High School in 1952.

She married Melvin Alexander Coburn Sept. 2, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple. She lived in Olympia, Wash., while her husband served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis. Their first child was born there. They also lived in Logan for two years while Melvin attended USU. They later moved to Ogden, where they stayed until 1973. They had six more children.

Arlien worked at a bank, the Garland Sugar Factory, and at IRS for several years. She went to Weber State College and earned an associates degree in nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Mendon, Logan, Roy, and Tremonton Nursing Homes.

She enjoyed going on trips with her family. She loved nature, birds, and animals. She enjoyed crafts. She did a lot of genealogy work and put together family history books. She enjoyed being a nurse and helping others.

She was a member of the Riverview Ward. Her last callings were ward extraction coordinator and visiting teacher. She had served in various callings through all her life.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin and her seven children: Mellien West, York Melvin Coburn (Tami), Merrillee Francom (James), Wynn Merrill Coburn (Tina), Dayle Merrill Coburn (Terri), Wade Merrill Coburn (Monica), and James Merrill Coburn (Alenda), 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Joyce Ringer (Wayne), Evalyn McBurnie, and her brother Michael W. Merrill (Annalene).

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Delwin West, and a granddaughter, Emily Coburn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon in Riverview-Deweyville Ward Chapel, 10750 N. Highway 38, with Bishop Hunter Barrus conducting. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 East, Tremonton, and Wednesday from 10:15 to 11:40 a. m. at the church. Interment in the Deweyville, Cemetery.
