Mrs. Agnes Christine Oxtoby, daughter of Albert and Nelsine Romstad, was born in Sargent County on May 8, 1895. In this community she grew to womanhood and on Nov. 1, 1935 was united in marriage to James Oxtoby at Aberdeen S.D. Mrs. Oxtoby had been in failing health for the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Oxtoby moved into Oakes in 1962.
She is survived by her husband, James two sons, Thomas Oxtoby of Cogswell and Robert Wilke of Oakes; two daughters Karen, Mrs. Billy Jo Sund and Fern, Mrs. Melvin Miller both of Oakes; four brothers, Magmus Romstad of Minneapolis, Olaf Romstad of Des Monies, Iowa, Harold of Oakes and Alfred of Warren, Mich. Three sisters Louise, Mrs. Palmer Peterson of Hansville, Wash; Margaret, Mrs. Nolan Jacobson of Aurora, Colo and Ellen, Mrs. Wallace Zemeck of Walla Walla, Wash, Ten grandchildren also survive as well as one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Oakes on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward Parker officiating. Mrs. Larry Roney served as organist and Mrs. Roy Swanson and Mrs. Albert Klein sang "In the Garden", "Abide with Me" and "I'm A Pilgrim."
The following served as pall-bearers; Louis Palensky, Arnold Nielsen, Ted Pfeifle, George Fordyce, Leon Zimbleman and William Gray.
Interment in Oakesvies Cemetery with Haugen-Baldwin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
