Thelma was the daughter of Rachel Eleine Hudson and Louie Daniel Lee. Lou was born on May 20, 1894 in West Virginia, died on February 10, 1968 in Marlinton, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, son of Julia D. M. Lee and Charles W. Lee. Lou worked as a tanner for International Shoe Company and he was never married. Rachel was living in the household of Emma F. Baldwin and Nathan Wilson in Little Levels District, Pocahontas County, West Virginia in 1920, eight households away from Charles W. Lee and his son Lou L. Lee.

Thelma married Lloyd Littlepage Erskine on February 23, 1940 in Covington, Virginia.
