Elizabeth was the 1st child of Samuel & Rebecca Miller, born in North Carolina on June 5, 1810. She married Andrew Caldwell Cathy on April 22, 1835 in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Andrew was born Jan. 28, 1811, the son of Col. Archibald P. Cathey and Mary Caldwell Cathey. Elizabeth & Andrew moved from NC to Alabama in 1835 along with Andrew's sister, and husband, Nancy Agnes & Joseph McKnitt Alexander and was listed on the 1840 census in Marengo County, Alabama. Elizabeth & Andrew farmed and six (6) people were living in the household and owned 12 slaves. Andrew died November 29, 1841 in Alabama at the young age of 30. They had only been married six (6) years. He was buried in Dayton Cemetery, Dayton, Marengo County, Alabama. His will states that the executors of his will be his wife, Elizabeth and Joseph McKnitt Alexander. Also, I found it unusual that also in his will was written that if his wife should marry, Joseph McKnitt Alexander would be the sole guardians of their two daughters. On November 20, 1855, Andrew's sister, Nancy Agnes Cathey Alexander died and then 6 years later on August 6, 1861 in Marengo County, Alabama, Amanda Elizabeth who some called "Betsy" married Nancy's husband, Joseph McKnitt Alexander. Remember that those two (2) families were best friends as well as in-laws and had traveled to Alabama together in 1835 from Mecklenburg County, NC with their spouses and children. Also that Elizabeth Amanda's daughter married Joseph McKnitt Alexander's son as well. Joseph McKnitt Alexander died March 13, 1865 in Marengo County, Alabama and was buried with his first wife, Nancy Agnes Cathey Alexander in Dayton Cemetery, Marengo County, Alabama. However, he has a large above ground vault at Hopewell UMC in Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, N.C. as well which is also confusing. Elizabeth Amanda "Betsy" Miller Cathey Alexander died July 17, 1876 and she is buried with her first husband, Andrew Cathey, also at Dayton Cemetery in Alabama.
