James D. Carter, candidate for councilman from the third ward, is a Jasper County product, having been born eleven miles northeast of Carthage 33 years ago and having lived all his life here. He is the son of J. E. Carter, a well known farmer and stockman who lives northeast of Jasper and who also was born and reared in Jasper County. Some twenty-five years ago he was engaged in the grocery business in Carthage.
James D. Carter grew up on his father's farm near Maple Grove, was educated in the public schools of Jasper County and twelve years ago came to Carthage where he has resided ever since. He is a clothing salesman in the employ of R. E. L. Blankinship and is a success.
He owns a cozy home at 923 Oak Street besides other Carthage property.
Mr. Carter is a self-made man. He is a hustler and as a member of the council has shown at all times a keen interest in the city's welfare. In addition he has proved himself level headed and possessed of good judgement.

Evening of Thursday, June 7 1934 at Carthage, Missouri's Drake hotel, James & wife Alice were on the fifty one member reception committee to welcome their friends of over forty years, Colonel Carl Raymond and wife Harriette (Flora) Gray to Carthage Homecoming.
He was 59 years old when he tragically ended his own life.
