James and Lucinda Huffman were married September 3, 1859. Children of this couple were Charles Henry, James Wyatt, David Adam, Stephen Isaac, John Kennidy., and Martha Jane. At his death, his will listed a total of about 2700 acres of land in Harris County. (Lucinda must have been quite a business woman, because by the time she died, she had added another 2000 or so acres to the estate.) Now the James Wyatt Oates School on Wallisville Road is named for him. According to the paperwork at this school he started the first school in the area in his home. He hired a teacher, Mary Catherine Holliday,
