Following service, he was employed at Bill Jacobs Chevrolet and then at NiCor Gas Company until his retirement.
Howard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jacqueline M. (Mikula) Mau; his daughter, Cheryl Ann (Marion) Watts, Jr., three grandchildren; Ryan Scott, Heather Lynn and Zachary Michael Watts all of Joliet; his brothers, Ronald W. (Roberta) Mau and Charles R. Mau of Joliet; His uncles, Robert (Adeline) Kweiser of Joliet and Walter (Gertrude) Boettcher of Otsego, Michigan; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Internment with full Military Honors at Woodlawn Memorial Park I, Joliet, Illinois.
