obit: Jeffrey Owen Veerkamp Sr. born April 2, 1943, died at his home on Dec. 19, 2008 after a long battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his sister, Paula and Alvin Dunn of Calif; a brother James and Virginia Veerkamp, of Calif.; his four children, son, Sonny and Sherry Veerkamp of Heavener, daughters Christy and Kenneth Dickson of Poteau; friend and mother of his children, Connie Veerkamp and his 15 plus grandchildren ages 9 to 24 years old and two great grandchildren. Jeff has friends and/or adopted family members spread across southeastern Oklahoma and central California. He helped many people in times of need with donations of time/ money/ a place to stay. He was always on the look out to help people in his own unconditional way, Those that he touched with his love will be lessened by his absence. As his final act to help people, he donated his remains to sientific research. There was a brief remembrance service held at his home on Dec. 21. When his ashes are returnrd, there will be a memorial for his closest friends and family.
