WILLIAM ROBERT McCONKIE--passed on Sunday March 7, 2010 at the age of 80.
He was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Oscar Walter and Margaret Vivian (Redd) McConkie; the youngest brother to Bruce Redd (Amelia) McConkie, F. Briton (Beth) McConkie, James W. McConkie, Margaret McConkie (Bill J.) Pope, and Oscar W. (Judith) McConkie Jr.

William married May Crowley, his dearly beloved eternal sweetheart, Sept. 14, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Blessing their lives are Melanie McConkie Tayler, Marcinelle (Andrew) Sarager, Robert (Flora) McConkie, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. His family is the source of his greatest joy.

William served an LDS mission in the Northwestern States. He was coordinator of LDS Servicemen in Bavaria, Germany. He served faithfully in three bishoprics, in three high councils, and in the Bountiful South Stake presidency. As a gospel scholar, he blessed the lives of his students in gospel doctrine classes and those who sought his counsel.

He served in the United States Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in Nuremberg, Germany, and graduated from the University of Utah Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. He fulfilled a term as City Judge in Moab, Utah. From 1961 to 2008 he was an attorney in the Office of the Solicitor, United States Dept. of Interior. For 48 years he represented the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He is deeply loved and esteemed by Father Lehi's and Mother Sariah's posterity, as he served the Indian people in Utah, Idaho, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico. He is an accepted expert in Indian Law.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ensign Stake Center, 135 A Street, Salt Lake City. There will be no public viewing. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
