He was born June 7, 1925 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Ossie and Azie (Austin) Allen Sr. He married Phyllis J. Ferguson May 27, 1944 in El Paso, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received three Bronze Stars.
He was employed as a Memorial Craftsman with Bendle-Lang Monument Company in Cadillac for several years. He was a member of the Cadillac American Legion and the AMVETS in Cadillac. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Jerry (Cheryl) Allen Jr. of Cadillac and Jeanne (Rex) VanDeBogart of Traverse City; grandchildren, Randy VanDeBogart and Rebecca (Scott) Johansson, all of Traverse City, Lisa (Jeff) Gilder of Hopkins, Holly (Christopher) Hibner of Canton, Mich., and Jennifer (Jerry) Choponis of Belding; great-grandchildren, Haley, Heidi, Ethan Gilder, Grace and Ashley Choponis, and Magnus and Marta Johansson; three sisters, Flora Johnson of Owosso, Naomi Jones of Flint, Hoy Allen of Nolansville, Tenn.; and special friend, Fran Johnson.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents; his brothers, Malcom, Ossie Jr., Finney, Robert Allen; and sisters, Marie Zynda and Doris Cheadle.
