YOUNG SON OF TROJAN DROWNING VICTIM IN POOL AT FREDRICK
JOHNNY JUNIOR UNDERWOOD, 11, MEETS DEATH WHILE SWIMMING -- FUNERAL SUNDAY
Johnny Junior Underwood, 11, R.R. 2, Tipp City, Son of Mrs. Hilda Elleman Conway, same address and Foreman Underwood, 121 West Market Street, Troy, met death by drowning at 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller's Grove, near Fredrick, according to a verdict of Dr. Maynard Kiser, Tipp City, acting coroner.
Three physicians used a pulmotor and artificial respiration for an hour on the boy in an unsuccessful attempt to save his life, at first giving an opinion that his death might have been due to an attack in the water. The lad went below the surface of the water only one time and was pulled from the pool by other swimmers.
Johnny would have been 12 years of age on Monday. He resided with his mother. In addition to his parents he is survived b three brothers, Paul, Tipp City, Lester, Dayton, and Norman, with the army in Japan; and a sister, Mrs. Pauline Weiss, Dayton. Mr. Underwood, the father, is an employee of the Troy Hardware company store in Troy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Ginghamsburg United Brethren church, with interment in Maple Hill cemetery, Tipp City. Friends may call at the Copppock, Lee & Rousseau Funeral home, Tipp City, Saturday until time of service.
