MILDRED M. PEIFFER

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Mildred Mae Peiffer, 68, of 46 W. Longmeadow Road died at 11:54 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 1990 in Washington County Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1922 in Butler Township, Adams County, Pa., daughter of the late Howard John and Bessie Ellen Huff Shultz.

She lived in Adams County during her early life. She graduated from Gettysburg (Pa.) High School in 1942.

She and her husband, Arthur G. Peiffer, were married Feb.14,1947, and lived at the present residence for 34 years.

Mrs. Peiffer was employed by the Federal Board of Engineers, Rivers and Harbors, in Washington, D.C., from 1942 to 1950. She later worked at Fort Ritchie for a number of years and for the Bureau of Public Roads of Hagerstown for several years. Prior to retirement in 1987, she was a secretary for 20 years at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She was a member of that church and worked on several church committees. She also was active with 4-H for a number of years and was a member of National Division of the American Association of Retired Persons.

In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter, Karen S. Smyth of Hagerstown; two grand-children; three sisters, E. Maybelle Sillik of Biglerville, Pa., Frances E. Andrew of Gettysburg and Viola G. Cashman of North Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St. The Revs. Russell E. Fink and Eleanor S. Bouv will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
