Anna Belle (Saffell) Worthington was born on November 25, 1928, at the home of her parents, Thomas Fletcher and Hazel Marie (Turner) Saffell.

She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Leonard R. Worthington, on October 12, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1984.

She attended the Berryton Grade School and graduated from Berryton Rural High School in 1946. She was active in all school activities including music and choir, and softball, having been quite a softball pitcher. She played in the Drum and Bugle Corps in Overbrook, Kansas. Ann was a part-time switchboard operator at the Berryton Telephone Co. during her high school days.

She was a stenographer for the State of Kansas and also worked as a library aide at the Berryton Grade School. During her life, she graciously would drive local ladies to shop, doctor's appointments, and was their hairdresser. She was active in community activities in the Berryton and Shawnee Heights area.

She was a member of the Harmony Club and Sesame Club, in which she held various offices, and also the Pinochle Card Club. Ann was a former member of the Berryton United Methodist Church, before moving to the Shawnee Heights area, and becoming a member there. She had a beautiful singing voice, singing in choirs, and many many weddings and funerals from Big Springs, Tecumseh, Richland, Stull, Berryton, and Carbondale, as well as singing in quartets, trios, and solos.

She is survived by two sons, Terry (wife Kathy) Worthington, of Tecumseh and Chuck (wife Mary) Worthington, of Topeka; and granddaughter, Rose Anna Worthington of Tecumseh.

Also surviving is a brother, Dr. Thomas F. (wife Ruth) Saffell, of Wichita; sister, Betty Underwood, of Berryton; and many nieces and nephews.

Ann will be deeply missed and will remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Lynn Creek Cemetery, Berryton, Kansas.
