"Lena Baker
BALLINGER (RNS)--Lena Belle Baker, 82, of Shady Oaks Lodge, formerly of Ballinger, died at about 8:30 p.m Tuesday in the nursing home after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Larry Correu, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born May 19, 1896, in Comanche County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe M. Neely, a pioneer West Texas ranching family. She married Clinton Leslie Baker March 19, 1914, and moved to Ballinger at that time. In 1973, she moved to the Abilene Towers here. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger for more than 50 years. In March 1978, she broke her hip and moved to the nursing home.
Mr. Baker died Oct. 27, 1972. Survivors include a son, Dr. David Baker of Portland, Oregon; a grandson, David, Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Elizabeth N. Slack of 2408 N. Willis.
Pallbearers will be Joe Neely, Thomas Lothem, B.L. Jones, Jr., B.L. Jones III, Tom N. Jones, Charles N. Prater, Gary Prater and David Walker."
