Tom Chapman dies at 76; former attorney for city

Tom Chapman, 76, cited in 1965 for fairness during his 22 years as city prosecuting attorney, died Friday in a hospital.

Chapman of 1022 Southland was a native of Primrose and lived here most of his life. He attended TCU and had been a attorney since 1932. He was in private practice here before joining the city in 1943.

When he retired fellow attorneys praised him for his professional ability and his "fairness and impartiality to all".

After retirement, he returned to private practice for about five years. He was member of the Texas and American Bar Associations.

He was a member of Elmwood Baptist Church 18 years, a deacon 16 years and was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 148.

Surviving are his wife, Delia May; four brothers, Wilbur Chapman and Oliver Chapman of Azle, Claude Chapman of Beaumont and Arthur Chapman of Tucson, Ariz., and three sisters, Mrs. May Kutch and Mrs. Izetta Martin of Fort Worth and Mrs. Lillie Glover of Azle.

Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Shannon's North Funeral Chapel with burial in Mount Olivet.
