MAX KAPP DIES, FIRECRACKER DROPPED INTO TANK; EXPLOSION FOLLOWS
From The Enterprise, July 8, 1928
The fatal accident to Max Kapp of Underwood, who died this morning at the Mortson hospital in this city, was one of the saddest tragedies that ever marred the Fourth of July in the Mid-Columbia district. Kapp, 19, son of Heinrich Kapp of Underwood, was burned at noon on July 4th when he threw a firecracker into a gasoline tank which he thought was empty. The gasoline exploded and ignited the youth's clothing. He was burned from head to foot before aid could be administered. He died this morning.
Charles Berrong burned his hand seriously in an attempt to tear away Kapp's blazing clothing.
Buried in Chris-Zada cemetery

The Enterprise, White Salmon, WA., July 12, 1929, section 2, page 1
