Civil War veteran of Company "G", 14th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Captured by CSA troops at the battle of Shiloh. On February 15, 1863 he was paroled at Macon, GA. Both of his brothers served in the Civil War from Iowa.

There appears to be an ongoing error si looked at Joseph's obituary he died on the 5th of Feb not the 7th. It is cascading to all researchers this wrong date. See his obituary.
