Lois Velma (Barker)Harrell went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014. She died in Napoleonville, Louisiana, at the age of 96 years and two months. She was born May 12, 1918, at home, near Cooperton, Oklahoma, to Roy and Etta (Baldwin) Barker. Her father died in an automobile accident in 1929, while she was 11, and her mother with a family of seven ran the farm. They milked cows, feed hogs, soaked corn and tended to the crops. She learned the value of hard work early on, but also enjoyed having fun. She loved swimming in the Red River, dancing (Western Swing) and going to the movies. She attended Mt. Park schools and in 1938, was united in marriage to Indiahoma farmer Claude Harrell. During WW II, she worked building liberty ships in Oregon. She resided in Frederick for nearly 25 years prior to going to Louisiana to be near family. She loved quilting, sewing, working in the garden and staying busy. Her favorite was Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and that was the theme for her 90th birthday party and family reunion at the Old Music Hall in Medicine Park, where she used to go dancing in the 1930's, with family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Frederick.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Claude Harrell; brothers: Delbert Barker, Tommy Barker, twins Roy and Troy Barker, Melvin Barker and a sister: Thelma Barker Teakell.
Survivors include a son: Roy Street Harrell and wife Gay, of Houston, Texas; a daughter: Linda Thompson and husband Delbert, of Raceland, Louisiana; Grandchildren: David and Melanie Thompson, Carl and Sara Harrell, Megan and Jason Almeida; great grandchildren: Melinda Thompson, Casey and Aaron Carreras, Lasey Thompson, Brodie and Trace Harrell, and Max and Reid Almeida; a great great grandson: Conner; and a great great granddaughter: Avery.
