She grew up in the Keedysville, Md. area. She knew Walter E. Marshall all of her life and they were married in Myersville, Md. They lived and raised all their children in Hagerstown, Md. They were the parents of 16 children; 13 grew to adulthood and 3 died as infants. She was a devoted mother and worked for a time at the Prospect Diner in the kitchen. She was a member of and attended the First Church of God in Hagerstown, at Summit Ave. and Baltimore Street.
