Harold Eugene Adams, 89, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at an Arlington health care facility after an extended illness.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Dan Patman, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church. Masonic graveside rites will be performed by Masonic Lodge 31 AF & AM. Visitation: A time of visitation and support for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
The former longtime Ardmoreite had moved to Fort Worth in 1991. Son of the late Jesse Ralph and Anna M. Stallings Adams, Harold was born May 19, 1920 at Mannsville, Okla. He was one of the great ones of that famous Greatest Generation of Americans that fought for and helped build this nation during the 20th century.
Harold enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. A sergeant in the 48th Depot Repair Squadron, he was stationed in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon.
He and Betty Jo Vaughn were married Feb. 17, 1943, at Urbana, Ill. She preceded him in death July 25, 2000. His parents; brother, Ralph Adams; and sister-in-law, Bena Whittle, also preceded him in death.
A 1951 graduate of Oklahoma A & M College, now Oklahoma State University, he received a doctor of veterinary medicine and had practices in Chickasha and Oklahoma City before becoming a veterinarian with the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
When living in Ardmore he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a 32nd-degree Mason with Ardmore Lodge 31 AF&AM, and the "2 Left Feet Dance Club."
Survivors: His son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cindy Adams of Arlington; his grandson and wife, Chip and Erin Adams of Austin; and his granddaughter and husband, Sara and Paul Engelhardt of Arlington.
