For more of Marion Westfall's story go to his father's memorial. He is listed in the 1850 & 1860 Census as Isaac M. and the eldest of the family, born in 1842, Virginia. In 1870 Census he is listed as Marion Westfall with his wife, Ann living in Seneca, Nemaha Co., Kansas freighting as occupation, they are living in Chicago, Illinois in 1880.

This is a bit about his life from the searches:
SENECA WEEKLY COURIER (Seneca, Kansas)- Friday, March 15, 1878- Page 9.
Marion Westfall, an old-time resident of Seneca, but now in the commission business in Chicago, is visiting old friends in Seneca, Wess is a good one, and ought to come back to Kansas and live.

SENECA WEEKLY COURIER (Seneca, Kansas)- Friday, March 22, 1878 Page 1.
We still see the face of our friend Marion Westfall on the street. He informs us that he is on a general western trip in the interest of his house, intending to buy and ship produce from this and neighboring points until warm weather; but finds that he is out of latitude, as the southern market is too strong for him, having to contend against heavy freights and slow delivery; but he is buying and shipping butter nevertheless. Wes. is on his third term with the old reliable house of Brown & Scott, now W. M. Scott & Co., Mr. Spencer having bought Mr. Brown. He says the house gives him a good living salary, and he will probably be on the road the most of the season. Wes. is the right man in the right place. While stopping here he paid a last tribute to his father and sisters, who lie in one grave in the cemetery. With good mechanic and good material, he built a foundation and base upon which a monument is securely planted, and put the lots in better appearance, which should be an example to others. Mr. Westfall has leased his house to Fred. Purnelle for a year, and is having it painted outside and in, and doing general repairs. When finished it will be the nicest cottage in that locality, and Fred and his wife will keep it looking so. Wes says he is getting homesick to come back to Seneca, and almost envies Fred his new home. He says on his travels through Indiana and Illinois, there is a hot Kansas fever, and thinks we will have a heavy immigration this spring, with a population that have money, and come to buy and not to homestead.

Marion Westfall is listed as a salesman and found in other census accounts, in other parts of the country. In 1910 & 1920 he seems to not know his birth date, perhaps it was his wife answering the questions? Maybe an obituary would answer some of these questions.

There is a Marion Westfall listed as a Private in the 10th Regt., WV Infantry, Co C. His father Peter Westfall is listed in Family Search as being in the Civil War, 10th Regt. Co. H. It is not certain that this is them, but the facts in Peters story about the war, his wife dying and other children in West Virginia, that the rest of his family ended up in Kansas.
