Funeral services for James E. Chowns, 87, of Bossier City, LA formerly of Rayville, LA were held Sep 19, 2014 at Boeuf River Baptist Church, Rayville, LA. Burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery, Holly Ridge, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville.
James was born July 6, 1927 in Dermott, TX and passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Shreveport, LA.
Mr. James is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Chowns; grandson, Troy Chowns; parents, William and Martha Chowns; brother, T.R. Chowns; and sisters, Edna Lawton, Willa Mae Dillon, and Gladys Petit.
Mr. James was a U.S Navy veteran and member of the Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA.
Survivors include his sons, Gene Chowns and wife, Jeanette of Columbia, LA, James Chowns of Rayville, Greg Chowns and wife, Rocio of Rayville, Tracy Chowns and wife, Darlene of Corpus Christi, TX, and Stacy Chowns of Crosby, TX; brother, Cloyce Chowns Sr. and wife, Jean of Zwolle, LA; grandchildren, Toni, Renee, Spencer, Lesley, Gary, Kevin, Michael, Phillip; 13-grandchildren and 3-great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Cloyce "Guy" Chowns, Kevin Chowns, James Chowns, Gary Chowns, Tracy Chowns, and Benny Blaylock. Honorary pallbearer is Terry Hayes.
