Slate Spring Citizen Dies on July 28 – Funeral Held at Slate Spring Last Friday
Mr. Mike Abb Skelton, age 57, died at his home at Slate Spring on Thursday afternoon, July 28. Funeral services were held from the Slate Spring Baptist Church on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Elgin West, assisted by Rev. J. B. Dorroh, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Pryor Funeral Home directed the rites and the following were pallbearers: Edwin Earnest, W. V. Earnest, Vernon Earnest, Royce Langston, Wilburr Skelton, Cecil Skelton, Donald Skelton, and W. S. Allen. Honorary: Arthur Carroll, J. F. Phillips, Victor Jennings, D. H. Dunn, J. T. Davis, Sr., J. W. Pearson, B. Hood, J. V. Putman, and Lester Pearson.
Mr. Skelton was born and reared at Slate Spring, and was a member of a prominent pioneer family. He was a member of the Slate Spring Baptist Church. A successful farmer and a progressive and useful citizen, he was held in high esteem throughout the county and Webster County. The people of Slate Spring community say that Mr. Skelton was a good neighbor, a man of honesty, truth, and good moral character.
He is survived b his wife, Mrs. Mary Moreland Skelton; by a daughter, Mrs. Delayon Pearons of Lambert; by a son, Ralph Skelton, of Marks; and by the following brother and sisters: Keel Shelton, Mathiston; Mrs. R. E. Buckley, Pheba; Mrs. King Earnest, Slate Springs; Mrs. Elmer Allen, Slate Springs; Mrs. Dora Gregg, Slate Spring; Mrs. Jess Langston, Slate Spring, Mrs. T. O. Dooler, Indiana; E. E. Skelton, Slate Spring; and Hughes Skelton, Slate Spring.
