100-Year-Old Area Farmer Dies at Home

A Carlisle Township resident who celebrated his 100th birthday Aug. 11, 1967, died in his home on Indian Hollow Road, Grafton, yesterday.
Charles Edwin Robson was born in Carlisle Township and lived his entire life in the area. He had been ill for several months.
The century-old man devoted his life to farming until his doctor suggested he retire eight years ago.
Mr. Robson attended Eaton School and the old Ridge Street School in Elyria. He was married to the former Celia Bruce in 1894.
A former Grange member, he was a member of the Washington Avenue Church of Christ. At one time, he served as president of the Carlisle Township School Board.
After his wife died in Oct. 1942, Mr. Robson made his home with the family of his son, Philip C.
Other survivors are another son, George W., Elyria, former clerk of the Carlisle Township trustees and two grandsons, Ted E. and William E., both of Elyria.
Friends will be received in the Sudro-Curtis Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Maurice W. Fogle officiating. Burial will be in LaPorte Cemetery. (Chronicle Telegram (Elyria, Ohio) 1968 February 5)

Charles Robson

A life that spanned the century from one Johnson administration to another ended Sunday when Charles Edwin Robson died at the age of 100 years.
Andrew Johnson was president when Mr. Robson was born in Carlisle Township Aug. 11 1867. Elyria was a quiet county seat village of fewer than 3,000 people and Lorain County's population was about 30,000. Living all his life in the Carlisle Township area, Mr. Robson saw great changes that have come about in the area in the last 100 years.
Living THAT long is quite an achievement in itself, but Mr. Robson's life was an active one as well as a long one. He was a former president of the Carlisle Township School Board and was engaged in farming until his doctor "ordered" him to retire eight years ago.
The Robson name has been a prominent one in Carlisle Township for many years.
Charles Edwin Robson helped make it so. (Chronicle Telegram (Elyria, Ohio) 1968 February 6)
