Marion was a fourth generation Houstonian whose grandfather and father owned businesses on Houston's rural north side. Marion graduated with honors from Jeff Davis High School. He maintained contacts and friendships with his classmates at Davis by serving on the reunion committees for over 52 years. Marion attended Baylor University and the University of Texas at Austin receiving a degree in electrical engineering in 1962. He began his career with Humble Oil and Refining (Exxon) working as a production engineer in Tomball, TX. His lifelong interest in the financial markets led him to leave the oil industry in the late 1960s and embark on a career as a financial advisor with Eppler, Guerin and Turner. He continued in this profession until 2004 when he retired from Wachovia.At an early age, Marion developed a lifetime love of music. He played both the trombone and piano. Marion was active in his high school band, the Houston Youth Symphony, and as a member of the Rice Institute band. He was also a member of the Baylor Marching Band. He continued to pursue his passion by participating in music activities and the orchestra at church.
