Alberta Jeanne Grenat, 89, a longtime Lafayette and West Lafayette resident, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, in Yellow Rose Hospice Care at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Oct. 27, 1920 to the late Robert Lucas Mehegan and Irene Johnson Mehegan. She married Ivan Charles Grenat on Jan. 11, 1941. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1978.
Surviving are three daughters, Judith Vanderwielen (husband: Larry), Diane Slaughterbeck (husband: Earl) and Lisa Vandeventer (husband: Norman), all of Lafayette; two sons, Terrence Grenat (wife: Chun Cha) of Valdosta, Ga. and David Grenat (wife: Jan) of West Lafayette; ten grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and sixteen stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, William Grenat (1983) and John Grenat (1996); three granddaughters, Angelec Vandeventer (1984), Carrie Slaughterbeck (1997) and Sandie Slaughterbeck Skoog (2002) and a brother, Robert L. Mehegan Jr. (1972).
