Like his father (Hardeman Cordell Montague) before him, he was a doctor of osteopathy and surgery and had built a fine clinic/hospital in Okmulgee, OK. During the war he was assigned to the Civil Air Patrol flying reconnaissance missions over the Gulf of Mexico for which he was awarded a medal for locating a German submarine. Dr Bob was well known throughout the Okmulgee-Muskogee region as a dapper, dashing, and colorful figure as well as a popular and well-respected physician.

He was married four times: (1) Martha Belle McCaffrey, 1 Feb 1924, had one son; (2) Francis May Cochran, 29 Jul 1930, had one son; (3) Mary Ann Lantz, 11 Mar 1948, had three children; (4) Mrs Hazel Avelin (Harris) Bower, 5 Mar 1969, had no children.
