Lorraine M. (Dupuis) Benware, 77, a 50 year Indian Orchard resident and formerly of Holyoke, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 15, 2010 at home. She was born in Holyoke on August 27, 1932, a daughter of the late Harold and Bertha (Pelletier) Dupuis. Lorraine attended Holyoke public schools, and was known by many because of her jobs in retail in Indian Orchard. She was a communicant of St. Jude Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 277, a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 461, and was a volunteer at St. Matthews School and Indian Orchard Elementary School. Over the years, Lorraine knitted and donated countless pairs of mittens to local schools and charities. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Wesley H. Benware on June 7, 2008; two brothers, Raymond Dupuis and Harold Dupuis Jr., and a sister, Bunny Sullivano. She is survived by her five children, Bruce W. and his wife Edna of Peoria, AZ, Bryon L. and his wife Dottie of Chicopee, Bryce H. of South Hadley, Barbara L. LaBier and her husband Michael of Ludlow, and Beverly A. Noland of Indian Orchard; a foster child, Candy of Northampton; two brothers, Allen Dupuis and his wife Patricia of Englewood, FL, and David Dupuis and his wife Linda of South Carolina; a sister, Jean Braese and her husband William of Indian Orchard; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Dupuis of Ware, and Valda Perham of Ludlow; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lorraine will be held on Friday, March 19th beginning at 9 a.m. from the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Jude Mission Church, Main St., both in Indian Orchard. Rites of Committal and burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. Lorraine's family will receive relatives and friends at the visiting hours on Thursday, March 18th from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In memory of Lorraine's love for children, her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Lorraine's memory to a charity that benefits children.
