RICHMOND — After a long battle with cancer, Carissa Mae Spencer, age 56, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012. She was at home surrounded by family and friends.

Born on August 25, 1956, in Geneva, Pa., she was a daughter of Ruth (Hitchcock) and Robert Spencer. She resided in Ohio most of her life, except for the years she spent in South Dakota. A place she loved.

Carissa graduated from Pymatuning Valley High School in 1974 and worked at the former Andover Industries.

Carissa was a very strong, loving, caring and giving person with a great sense of humor. Her family, friends and lil poodle, "Shuggie" meant everything to her. She enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, dancing, traveling to Canada, the beach, making maple syrup, boating and cooking. When she wasn't as mobile: reading, coloring, playing cards and watching her favorite TV programs helped her cope.

Carissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret and Andrew Hitchcock and Ruth and Rufus Spencer.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer L. Spencer of Richmond; her mom and dad, Ruth and Robert Spencer of Richmond; a sister, Cynthia (Rick) Redetzke of South Dakota; two brothers, Robert Spencer and Larry Spencer, both of Richmond; and two nieces and one nephew that Aunt Carissa Adored!

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10th, at the Richmond Methodist Church, Richmond, Ohio, with the Rev. Patricia Fischer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank all those who have been there with caring and support.

BAUMGARDNER FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE of Andover handled the arrangements where an online guestbook is available at www.baumgardnerfuneralhomes.com.
