Earle Wynton Prendergast, a retired engineering and sales executive, died March 30, 2009, after a brief illness at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Prendergast, 89, was a native of Atlanta and a resident of Roswell at the time of his death. He was a 1940 graduate of Georgia Tech where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. While attending Georgia Tech he received a call to usher at the premier of Gone With the Wind (one of his most memorable moments).

He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He flew extensively throughout North Africa and The Middle East and was on assignment to the Air Corps Engineering School at Wright Field, Ohio when the war ended.

Mr. Prendergast was employed by The Foxboro Company for 30 Years and was a former Division Manager in Atlanta. At that time he was a member of the Buckhead Rotary Club and a long time member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Roswell United Methodist Church.

Mr. Prendergast was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Elsie York Prendergast. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Prendergast Wesley of Roswell, and son, Joel Earle Prendergast of Canton plus three grandchildren, Laura Merrick of Beaufort, S.C., Allyson Wesley of Woodstock, and Bryan Wesley of Atlanta.

Funeral graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Arlington Memorial Park. Rev. Malone Dodson and Rev. Bill Schotanus officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for melanoma research or Roswell United Methodist Church, Roswell, Ga.
