Samuel C. Barrett, Jr. was born in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, on December 25, 1792, the son of Samuel C. Barrett, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Hanna). He spent the early years of his life in Springhill/Wharton Townships, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. As a young boy, he moved with his parents and siblings to Wood Co., (W.) Virginia, about 1798, and here he spent his teen and young adult years.

Samuel Barrett Jr. is listed on the 1820 Wood Co., (W.) Virginia, census in a household by himself: 1 male age 16-25 [not married until 1824]

At the age of 31, Samuel C. Barrett, Jr. married Miss Mary "Polly" (Kite) in Wood Co., (W.) Virginia, on April 12, 1824.

After their marriage, Samuel Jr. and Mary lived in Wood County, (W.) Virginia, much of the time in the Stillwell Creek/ Murphytown area of Clay District, Wood Co., (W.) Virginia, where their children were born and raised.

Virginia, census with the following in his household: 2 males age 5-9 (James M. & John R.), [2 males 10-14 (? & ?)], 1 male 30-39 (Samuel Jr.), 1 female under age 5 (Anna), 1 female age 20-29 (Mary) [NOTE: Samuel Jr. & Mary have only been married 6 years]

On November 15, 1833, "Sam'l Barrett Junr" purchased 100 acres of land lying on the waters of Stillwell Creek from Jane Farrow for $200 [Wood Co., WV, Deed Book 8, pg 457]

Virginia, census [no wife listed] with his kids: John Barrett-21, Anna Barrett-24, Samuel Barrett-14, Bushrod Barrett-11, Pardon Barrett-8, James Barrett-6 (all kids B-Va.) #643-643 [wife- Mary & son-James Monroe both died 1849 prior to this census]

At the age of 61, Samuel Barrett, a widower, remarried to Mrs. Elizabeth (Campbell) Carson in Wood Co., W. Va., on November 04, 1864.

Sam'l Barrett (now) Senr. & Elizabeth his (2nd) wife conveys to (his son) John R. Barrett, 130 acres of land from the home farm on the waters of Stillwell Creek for $4000 dated February 16, 1866 [Wood Co., WV, Deed Book 30, pgs. 12-13], being part of land sold to "Sam'l Barrett Junr" on November 15, 1833 by Jane Farrow (Wood Co., WV, Deed Book 8:457)

Samuel C. Barrett, Jr., died at Stillwell Creek near Murphytown, Wood Co., W. Va., on June 11, 1871, at the age of 78 1/2, and he is buried in the Grant/Barrett Cemetery near Murphtown, Wood Co., W. Va., near his 1st wife and most of his children.
