Elmer Lee Givens, 58, 0f 105 W. 11th Street in Smackover died Wednesday night in a Houston, Tex., hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral Services have been set for 10 a.m. today at Sandyland Baptist Church with the Rev. J. R. Paxton and the Rev. Lavelle Tinsley officiating.

Interment will be in Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's.

Mr. Givens was born July 22, 1916 in Cove to Jessie E. and Cora Friend Givens. He was a retired welder and former employe of Monsanto Chemical Co. A lifelong resident of Union County, he was a member and a deacon of Sandyland Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Gladys Bradley Givens of Smackover; four sons, A. B. Langley of Houston, Terrel W. Langley of Smackover, J. Elmer Givens of Smackover and Jerry D. Givens of El Dorado; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Evans of Montgomery, Ala., and Mrs. Brenda Law of Jacksonville; two brothers, C.R. Givens of Plano Tex., and L. D. Givens of Magnolia; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Gilbert of Livingston, Tex., and Mrs. Ella Mae Blake of Houston; and 16 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be H. O. Molsbee, Jack Moore, Arthur Ray, Jay H. Kinder, L.V. Kelling and J. M. Tinsley.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Monsanto Chemical plant.


The body will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. today.
