Ms. Kommes lived in the family home at 6120 Ogden Ave., and graduated from Superior Central High School in 1928. She received a bachelor of education degree magna cum laude from Superior Teachers College in 1931, a master of philosophy degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1934 and her law degree cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 1953. Ms. Kommes was an English teacher and librarian for a school near Duluth. She then became assistant librarian at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. For three years, she served as librarian at the Duluth Bar Library. She was then named assistant state librarian at the State Capitol. She was appointed head librarian of the Hennepin County Law Library in October, 1948, retiring from that position in August, 1975 after 27 years of service to the library. Since that time she had resided in Edina, Minn., and for the past 10 years at St. Ann's Senior Residence in Duluth. She moved to Lakeshore Lutheran Home in February of 1998.
She is survived by one sister, Helen Kommes, Superior; two nephews, Richard Johnson, Lake Forest, Ill., and Robert Johnson, Golden, Colo.; one grandnephew; and one grandniece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Greta Kommes; a brother, Carl E. Kommes, and two sisters, Edna Kommes and Ellen Johnson.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Downs Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Peterson of Bethel Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation in the funeral home will be Tuesday from 1-1:30 p.m
