Crookham, Donald O.

After a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, Donald O. Crookham, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Manor Park in Midland, Texas.

He was born May 18, 1923, in South Heights, Pennsylvania to Clyde and Florence Snyder Crookham. He proudly served as a pilot, Second Lieutenant, in the Army Air Force, and was stationed at Midland Air Field as well as other locations. It was in Midland that Don met and married Tomy Ayres Crookham on February 3, 1945 in the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1949 with a BBA Degree, Tomy and Don lived in Midland until 1975, during which time Don served as Deacon, Elder, and chairman of numerous committees within the congregations of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church (formerly Westminster Presbyterian Church).

Don began working for The Superior Oil Company in Midland as an accountant. He later founded the company's safety program, then transferred with Superior to Conroe, Texas in 1975, working both in Conroe and in The Woodlands until his retirement in 1984. In Conroe, Don was an active member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, and was Volunteer of the Year for the Crisis Action Line. He also served as a charter member and chairman of the Gulf Coast Safety and Training Group.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tomy, who passed away December 15, 1997, his parents, Florence and Clyde Crookham, his brother, Robert Crookham, and his mother-in-law, Roma Ayres.

Don is survived by his daughter, Donna Whiles of Midland, Texas, and his son, James L. Crookham and wife Pam of Katy, Texas. He also is survived by his grandchildren Richard Whiles of Houston, Megan Whiles of Midland, Christopher Crookham of Madison, WI, Jason Crookham, Jennifer Crookham and Jonathan Crookham of Katy, great-granddaughter Kinsey Hodge of Midland, sister-in-law Hateja Crookham of Aliquippa, PA, and sister-in-law Peggy Jordan French and husband Jim French of Ruidoso, NM.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2005 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends and family were invited to a memorial service at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Jon Deily and Sherry Holloman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Trinity Presbyterian Scholarship Fund, 2800 W. Louisiana, Midland, Texas 79701, The National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 N.W. 9th/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494, Home Hospice, 911 W.
