Served in the VA militia. Enlisted in Revolutionary War service 1776 and fought in battles of White Plains, Germantown and Staten Island.

Arrived in KY in 1818-19 from Maryland in wagons via Cumberland and Maysville Road to Paris and then to Harrison County. He purchased land in Harrison County on Beaver Creek and set up business as a wheelwright. His three children accompanied him to KY, but his wife Ellen did not.

Additional children:
-William McCauley - accompanied father to KY. He bought land on Beaver Creek that was later acquired by his father. He either died or disappeared around 1823.

Obit:
"Died--On the 23d ult., at the residence of
Rev Samuel Vanhook Lee in Harrison county, THOMAS McCAULEY, aged 102 years, a soldier of the Revolution."

Plot is three miles from Milford on the Central Ridge Pike.
